Filmara vs WriterDuet

WriterDuet is a screenwriting app built around writing together: real-time co-writing, comments and chat, in the browser, on mobile and on the desktop.

Filmara co-writes in real time too, and goes past the page. The screenplay’s characters, places and storyboard live in the same project, and the shots are rendered from the script.

If you want a writing room with production revisions and Final Draft files in and out, WriterDuet is a strong choice. If you want to see the film you are writing, Filmara shows it.

  • You trade drafts with people on Final Draft and need .fdx files in and out.

  • You want an assistant included in the plan.

Switching

WriterDuet exports Fountain, and Filmara opens it: export the script as a .fountain file and open it in Filmara. Comments and line history stay in WriterDuet.

It works the other way too: Filmara exports Fountain, which WriterDuet imports.

WriterDuet’s prices and features were checked against its own pages on 21 October 2026: WriterDuet: plans and pricing · WriterDuet Help: choosing a subscription · WriterDuet Help: importing · WriterDuet Help: exporting. A dash in WriterDuet’s column means its own pages don’t list the feature. WriterDuet is a trademark of its owner, named here only to compare.
Filmara is where a storyteller sees the whole film — every decision together — before committing to any of it.
